Men's soccer posts convincing win at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa – There isn't a much better way to bounce back from a loss.

Mitchell White and Kyle Kusy each scored two goals and the Simpson men's soccer team scored eight unanswered in an 8-1 win at Buena Vista on Wednesday night.

After losing a tough, 4-3 decision to Wartburg to start conference play just four days ago, the Storm (9-4, 1-1 Iowa Conference) left no doubt against Buena Vista.

White registered the eighth, multi-goal game of his career and moved within a point of tying Simpson's career mark of 89 set by Angel Salcido from 2002-05.

Already the program's career leader in goals scored, White found the back of the net in the 10th and 55th minutes.

The result was never in doubt as Simpson scored eight unanswered and outshot Buena Vista 28-5, including 19-3 in the second half. The eight goals scored by Simpson are the most in the history of the 19-match series.

Kusy scored the game's second goal on an assist from White in the 19th minute. Nick Joslyn found Spencer Cook in the 40th minute for the third and final score of the first half.

Anthony Ashbridge continued his hot play as of late, scoring the first goal of the second half just over two minutes in. He now has a goal in each of the last three games.

After White found the back of the net for the second time, Kusy quickly followed suite, scoring his third goal of the season in the 55th minute.

Collin Hemann (84') and Connor Nightingale (85') rounded out the scoring for Simpson, which extended its winning streak against Buena Vista to seven matches.

Alex Gleaves scored the lone goal of the contest for the Beavers (4-5-1, 0-2), who lost for the fourth time in five tries.
