White breaks scoring record as men's soccer tops UW-Whitewater

 Mitchell White's 37th career goal

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Mitchell White scored two goals in the second half to become the program's career leader in goals scored as Simpson's beat Wisconsin-Whitewater 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

White connected on a header in the 54th minute, giving Simpson a 2-1 lead and making him to the top of the record book with 37 career goals. He added another goal in the 84th minute to seal the win.

A senior from Decorah, Iowa, White has been a model of consistency throughout his career, scoring at least 10 goals per season since his freshman year in 2011. Although he's not a flashy player, his knack for winning balls in the box has earned him a piece of Simpson history.

"We have some great players on this team that can make things happen, so I just look to be opportunistic and put myself in the right spot," White said.

White was a member of head coach Rick Isaacson's first recruiting class at Simpson, and the two have watched the program grow from a team that struggled to make the conference tournament to one that has its sights on a conference championship.

"When I came in it was [Isaacson's] first year and the program was a little down," White said. "There was no better time to come in to the program. To see the growth we've made – it feels incredible. [Isaacson] has put together a great team and we're doing some special things now."

Cody Jacobson split a pair of Whitewater defenders for a nifty goal to open the scoring in the fifth minute before Ryan Reid scored on a rebound in the box to tie the game 1-1 in the seventh minute.

A questionable foul in the box gave the Warhawks (4-2-1) a golden opportunity to seize control of the game in the ninth minute, but goalkeeper Zach McEntee denied John Gottwald's penalty kick attempt. it was the second save on a penalty kick for McEntee this season, who made six total saves.
