Men's soccer falls in final minutes

INDIANOLA, Iowa – An unlucky bounce played a big part in the third loss of the year for the Simpson men's soccer team.

Logan Martell headed in a ball that deflected off the crossbar in the 78th minute and Luther escaped Buxton Stadium with a 1-0 win on homecoming.

A hard-fought game between two evenly-matched teams, Martell was in the right place at the right time for the Norse (10-4, 4-0 Iowa Conference), who received votes in the latest d3soccer.com Top 25 Poll.

Both teams took 15 shots as Simpson put seven on goal and Luther put six on goal. The only notable difference in the stat line was corner kicks, where Simpson took five to Luther's one.

Mitchell White put all three of his shots on goal as he was held scoreless for just the third time in the last 10 games. He had a header opportunity in the 89th minute, but the ball popped up and into the hands of keeper Tommy Breen.

Zach McEntee made five saves for the Storm (9-3-2, 2-2), who are off until Saturday, Oct. 19 when Coe visits Buxton Stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
