Men's soccer cruises against Cornell

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Mitchell White and Louis Joslyn scored two goals apiece and the Simpson men's soccer team cruised to an 8-1 win against Cornell on Wednesday.

White scored the first two goals of the game and the Storm (9-2-2) scored eight unanswered to remain unbeaten in the all-time series against Cornell at 21-0.

Three players collected their first goals of the season for Simpson. Joslyn's goal in the 47th minute put him on the board, then he promptly repeated the feat less than a minute later for the first multi-goal game of his career. Spencer Cook made it 3-0 with his score in the 30th minute and Josh Harry started the second-half flurry with a goal in the 47th minute.

Cook also had two assists while Cody Jacobson and Collin Hemann got in on the scoring as Simpson outshot Cornell 44-6.

Austin Schafer went 70-plus minutes in goal, making one save in the winning effort. Ryan Chabal closed out the game in his first appearance of the season.

Connor Hagen made 12 saves and Abubakar Shehu scored the lone goal for the Rams (2-10), who lost their seventh in a row.

Simpson returns to conference action on Saturday when it hosts Luther at 7 p.m. The Norse (9-4, 3-0 Iowa Conference) received votes in the latest d3soccer.com Top 25 poll, but lost to Carleton 3-2 on Wednesday.

White Climbs Record Books: White now has a career-high 12 goals on the season ... his 32 career goals move him into sole possesion of third place on Simpson's all-time list, just four shy of the career record of 36 set by Angel Salcido (2002-05) ... his 69 career points are tied for sixth all-time and his 137 shots are 10th.
