Storm roll over Westminster

FULTON, Mo. – Six different players got involved in the scoring and the Simpson men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over Westminster on Monday.

Marcus Varnum scored one goal and assisted on another as the Storm (5-0-1) had the breakout offensive performance they had been waiting for.

Simpson scored a combined six goals in its first five games prior to Monday's outburst.

Kyle Kusy scored the first goal of the game in just 29 seconds and Simpson never looked back.

Collin Hemann made it 2-0 in the 38th minute as Varnum notched his first assist. The lead held steady until the 56th minute, when Mitchell White found the back of the net for the second time in as many games. Varnum put the finishing touches on the shutout himself when he took a feed from Tyler Neumann for the team's fourth goal.

Despite Simpson's convincing win, the Blue Jays (0-5-1) actually outshot Simpson, 21-17 on the day. Consequently, goalkeepers Luke Aronow and Austin Schafer combined for eight saves. Aronow made seven in just over 70 minutes of work while Schafer had one in relief.

The win helps Simpson to the second-best, six-game start in program history and best start since the 2003 team went 6-0.

The Storm put their undefeated record on the line Wednesday when they host Grinnell at 7:30 p.m.
