Storm fall short in wet shootout

HENDRIX, Ark. – Three goals weren't enough for the Simpson men's soccer team on a wet Friday night in Arkansas.

Kyle Kusy scored a goal and assisted on another and Simpson erased an early two-goal deficit but came up short in a rain-soaked, 4-3 loss to Hendrix on the first night of the Warrior Classic.

After starting the season 4-0, the Storm (4-3) have lost three straight games but the slimmest of margins.

"The results of late are frustrating," head coach Rick Isaacson said of the one-goal losses. "But we're making progress. I have little doubt we'll be playing our best soccer when it matters most."

Originally scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff, thunderstorms in the area triggered an hour delay. Though the threatening weather left the area, rain fell throughout the game.

Grant Womack had two goals and two assists and Connor Silverstri had two goals and one assist for the Warriors (5-0-1).

Silvestri scored the first two goals of the game, finding the back of the net in the seventh and 17th minutes.

Mitchell White put the Storm on the board at the 19:36 mark and Jeremy Reinert provided the equalizer in the 26th minute.

Womack made the count 3-2 in the 64th minute, forcing Simpson to play catch-up again.

Kusy answered the call, knocking in the Storm's third goal only 13 seconds after Womack.

But Womack made the last move, connecting on the game winner at the 78:42 mark.

Simpson will try to snap its streak of bad luck Saturday when it faces Texas-Tyler in a 6 p.m. kickoff.
