Storm beat Cornell, remain undefeated in IIAC

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Jeremy Reinert scored two goals and assisted on another and Simpson recovered from an early deficit in a 4-1 win over Cornell on Wednesday.

The 3-0 start in conference play is the best since 2007 and puts the Storm (6-6-1, 3-0 Iowa Conference) atop the league standings along with Loras and Luther.

Simpson scored four unanswered goals after getting down 1-0 early, a rally started by freshman Mitchell White.

Seven minutes after Julian Peota gave the Rams (1-11, 0-2) a 1-0 lead, White took a cross from Mark Lahart to knot the contest at 1-1.

Reinert gave Simpson the lead in the 30th minute, sneaking a delivery past the keeper from five yards out off an assist from Jon Boss. Reinert struck again on a breakaway in the 39th minute, giving head coach Rick Isaacson's team a 3-1 cushion at halftime.

Reinert assisted on the fourth and final goal, leaving a ball for Bryan Michelsen's first goal of the season in the 51st minute.

Defensively, Simpson held Cornell to 11 shots while taking 25. Luke Aronow made three saves in 83-plus minutes between the posts.

The Storm improved to 19-0 all-time against Cornell as 23 players saw action in the contest.

Simpson faces its biggest challenge of the conference season when it faces Wartburg on Saturday, Oct. 8. The only conference loss for the Knights (5-5, 1-1) came against league-leading Luther. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Waverly.
