Reinert gives cardiac Storm 2-1 overtime win

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson men's soccer team is developing a flair for the dramatic.

Jeremy Reinert scored the winning goal with six seconds left in the second overtime, giving Simpson an amazing 2-1 win over Dubuque on Saturday.

For the second time this season, the Storm (5-5-1, 2-0 Iowa Conference) scored a goal with under 30 seconds remaining to tie or win a game. The first was a game-tying goal by Mike Flanagan against Grinnell. This time, Reinert gave Simpson three crucial points in conference play.

With 25 seconds left in the second overtime, the Spartans (6-3-1, 0-2) lined up for a corner kick. Simpson's Mitchell White countered, resulting in a breakaway. White left the ball for Reinert, who finished the comeback win.

Pablo Martinez scored the first goal of the game in the 26th minute. The 1-0 lead held until the 68th minute, when Chris Allen banged a free kick off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

Dubuque out-shot Simpson 25-9 and put 10 shots on goal to Simpson's five. Luke Aronow made nine saves for the Storm.

The Storm continue their road trip Sunday when they travel to Bloomington, Ill. for a non-conference contest against Illinois Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for Noon.
