Flanagan comes through again in 1-0 win over Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the second game in a row, Mike Flanagan provided Simpson's only goal as the Storm beat Coe 1-0 on Saturday at Clark Field.

Flanagan helped the Storm (4-4-1, 1-0 Iowa Conference) salvage a 1-1 tie with his flick in the waning seconds against Grinnell on Tuesday and his goal helped Simpson win its conference opener for the first time in three years on Saturday.

Jeremy Reinert found Flanagan in the 13th minute and the Simpson defense held on from there.

The win marks the first time Simpson has beat Coe since 2007.

The Kohawks (4-3-2, 0-1) out-shot Simpson 10-7 and took six more corner kicks, but both teams put only two shots on goal. Luke Aronow made good on both save opportunities for Simpson.

Simpson will stay on the road for its next contest, a Sunday matchup with Augustana (Ill.) in Rock Island, Ill. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
