Bio

Tyler Christians begins his second season as the head men's golf coach at Simpson in 2019-20. A current PGA Apprentice at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Christians golfed collegiately at Grand View University.

Christians was named the 2019 Iowa PGA Assistant Professional of the Year for his work at Wakonda. This honor is based on the professional’s entire record with emphasis on his performance and achievements over the past year. This is the highest honor paid to an assistant golf professional and the award committee determined this winner based on strength as a player, teacher, merchandiser and overall golf professional, the contributions to the success of the nominees facility, the nominees contributions to the game of golf, the character of the nominee and respect for other professionals, example of professionals who have enhanced their careers through the nominee, the nominee’s ability to play golf and the previous Section awards or community involvement activities.

Christians takes over for Justin Livingston, who resigned following the 2018 season after two years at the helm.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of the Simpson team,” Christians said. “I look forward to seeing the culture within the players and coaches. I have been dreaming of an opportunity to coach players with a passion for the game and I am honored Simpson is the place at which I will be coaching.”

A native of Urbandale, Iowa, Christians has worked for the Wakonda Club since 2012, where he is currently a Level Two PGA Apprentice. He has also spent time at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Christians golfed collegiately at Grand View University, graduating with a degree in sports management in 2015. He was named to the Dean’s and President’s list three times each while at Grand View.
