Tyler Christians hired as men’s golf coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College Director of Athletics Brian Niemuth has announced the hiring of Tyler Christians as the next head coach of the Storm men's golf program. A current PGA Apprentice at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Christians golfed collegiately at Grand View University.

"I am excited to introduce Tyler Christians as our men's golf coach," Niemuth said. "He is a young, energetic coach who has had the opportunity to coach individuals as a PGA Apprentice at one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the state. He has the knowledge to take our program to the next level."

Christians takes over for Justin Livingston, who resigned following the 2018 season after two years at the helm.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Simpson team," Christians said. "I look forward to seeing the culture within the players and coaches. I have been dreaming of an opportunity to coach players with a passion for the game and I am honored Simpson is the place at which I will be coaching."

A native of Urbandale, Iowa, Christians has worked for the Wakonda Club since 2012, where he is currently a Level Two PGA Apprentice. He has also spent time at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Christians golfed collegiately at Grand View University, graduating with a degree in sports management in 2015. He was named to the Dean's and President's list three times each while at Grand View.

The Storm return nine golfers from last year's team that finished seventh at the Iowa Conference Championship.
