Storm take sixth in tightly contested Simpson Invite

NORWALK, Iowa — Korbin Sesker had the second-best round of day and the Simpson men's golf team finished sixth of eight teams in the tightly contested Simpson Invitational. Only eight strokes separated the first six teams in the two-round tournament that concluded Tuesday at The Legacy Golf Club.

Simpson shot 307 Tuesday to finish with 615, six strokes behind Central and Nebraska Wesleyan who tied for fourth. Grand View, Iowa Lakes CC and Luther shared the team title after shooting 607. 

After carding a 78 on Simpson's home course Monday, Sesker came back with a 1-over 73 to finish in a four-way tie for 10th in the field of 50 golfers. He started slow, shooting 5-over on his first five holes of the day, but came back to shoot 3-under in the final 13. He birdied the par-4 eighth to close the day.

Nick Hartman finished a steady tournament with a 4-over 76, identical to his day one total. He finished tied for 14th with a 152, just one stroke behind Sesker. 

Simpson's day one leader, Andrew Lallier carded an 80 to finish at 155, tied for 17th. Blake Bender cut one stroke with a 78, good for 157 and a tie for 24th.

Ben Butler, Mitchell Brown, Nick Baumhover, Reid Cobb and Bailey McMillan rounded out Simpson's competitors.

Simpson is off this weekend before heading to the Weis Foundation Classic in Springfield, Ill. on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22.
