Lindenman named IIAC Athlete of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The 2016 Iowa Conference men's golf champion, Simpson's Trent Lindenman is the conference's Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 1, the league office announced Tuesday.

A senior from New Sharon, Iowa, Lindenman became Simpson's first IIAC Championship medalist since 2003 when he carded a 1-over 145 over the final two rounds of the tournament last weekend at Oneota Golf and Country Club in Decorah. Lindenman finished with a four-round total of 291, winning by 10 strokes while posting the lowest score by a Simpson golfer since the current championship format was put into place in the 1990s.

The three-time All-IIAC golfer made a big jump this spring after tying for 10th the previous two seasons. Although his stroke average was slightly higher than his junior season, Lindenman closed his career on a strong note by piecing together a consistent performance.

He shot 74 and 72 over the first two rounds, played at Finkbine Golf Club in Iowa City. Tied with Luther's Elliot Horst after the first weekend, Lindenman pulled away on Luther's home course, shooting 73 in the third round before closing with a 72.

Lindenman's performance helped Simpson place third at the IIAC Championship, the program's best finish since 2007. The conference honor is the fourth of Lindenman's career.

Head coach Jason Marvelli stepped down following the season to move into a volunteer assistant role. Former Central College assistant coach and standout golfer for the Dutch, Justin Livingston, takes over as head coach.
