Men's golf begins spring season at Illinois Wesleyan, Iowa City

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson men's golf team started the 2016 spring season at a weather-shortened Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Normal, Ill. on April 1 before returning to Iowa to take part in a triangular with Luther and Coe on Sunday, April 3 at Finkbine Golf Course.

Cold weather and high winds forced the cancellation of the second round of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational as the Storm tied for 15th in the 21-team field.

Shaan Desai posted the team's low score of Friday's round, carding a season-low 75 to tie for 23rd overall. Trent Lindenman shot 78 to tie for 52nd.

Wind was a factor again Sunday but temperatures were warmer as Simpson fell to Luther by just two strokes, 318-320. Coe rounded out the triangular with a 344.

Desai earned medalist honors, carding a 6-over 77 to best teammate Nathan Molstead and Luther's Andrew Betts by a stroke. Lindenman tied for eighth with an 81.

Up next: The Storm compete in two events in a five-day span, going to the Wartburg Invitational at Prairie Links in Waverly, Iowa on April 8-9 then to the Webster Invitational at Aberdeen in Eureka, Mo. on April 11-12.
