Simpson endures weather-shortened first weekend at IIACs

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Andy Hutchins carded a 5-over 77 and the Simpson men's golf team endured a rain-shortened first weekend of the Iowa Conference Championships at Finkbine Golf Course.

Simpson shot 321 as a team, good for fifth place after 18 holes. The Storm are 14 strokes back of leader Central and seven behind second-place Dubuque.

First-round play was suspended Friday afternoon due to persistent rain and lightning with four groups remaining on the course, including four golfers from Simpson. Those individuals completed their rounds Saturday morning when the decision was made to forgo an attempt at a second 18 holes due to an uncertain weather forecast.

Hutchins finds himself in a three-way tie for seventh with Logan Bahl (Loras) and Peter Kephart (Luther).

Trent Lindenman shot a 79, good for a four-way tie for 13th. Nathan Molstead (82, t-21st), Shaan Desai (83, t-25th) and Jimmy Siebert (86, t-31st) rounded out Simpson's lineup.
