Lindenman's third win propels men's golf to first at Simpson Invite

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The best season of Trent Lindenman's career continued with a win and a career-best round at the Simpson Fall Invitational on Wednesday afternoon.

Lindenman fired a 3-under 68 to win the one-day, 18-hole invitational, his third tournament victory of the fall. Andy Hutchins shot an even-par 71 for second and Simpson ran away with the team competition with a season-low 289, beating second-place Wartburg by 16 strokes.

Wartburg shot 305, followed by William Penn (308) and Simpson Red (314). William Penn Blue came in fifth (317), followed by AIB (320), Wartburg Orange (324) and Coe (343).

Coe's Tyler Gunderson came in third after shooting a 1-over 72.

A junior from New Sharon, Iowa, Lindenman shot 1-under on the front nine and 2-under on the back. He made a tournament-best five birdies and settled for bogey only twice.

Lindenman lowered his season average to 74.9 in 14 rounds this fall, currently the lowest by a Simpson golfer on record dating back to 2009.

Hutchins shot 2-over on the front and 2-under on the back to keep pace with Lindenman for the final nine holes. He birdied four holes on the day, including accounting for one of just two on the par-4, 360-yard sixth. 

Nathan Molstead fired three birdies en-route to a 2-over 73 and a tie for fourth, rounding out the top five varsity finishers for Simpson. Mitch Tomlonovic shot 3-over 74 to tie for sixth and lead the junior varsity finishers.

Jimmy Siebert (77, t-13th) and John Hartung (82, t-33rd) rounded out the varsity finishers while Chad Moore (77, t-13th), Marshall Kray (79, t-18th), Korbin Sesker (81, t-28th), Logan Floyd (82, t-33rd) and Nick Hartman (85, 41st) completed the Simpson competitors.
