Juilfs, Lindenman earn All-IIAC honors as Storm finish 5th

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Conner Juilfs and Trent Lindenman earned all-conference honors and the Simpson men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Iowa Conference Championship from Dubuque Golf & Country Club on Saturday.

Juilfs carded a 78 to finish ninth (309) and Lindenman shot a 77 to tie for 10th (310) in the fourth and final round.

The Storm shot 312 as a team, closing the 72-hole tournament at 1,252. Dubuque won the team race (1,210), followed by Central (1,217), Luther (1,232) and Wartburg (1,244).

A senior, Juilfs earned the first all-conference accolade of his career with steady play throughout the tournament. He carded a 78 and a 76 in the first two rounds at Finkbine in Iowa City, then closed with a 77 and a 78 this weekend. Juilfs finished tied for eighth, but lost the fifth sudden-death playoff hole to Dubuque's Martin Odegard. Odegard birided 17 while Juilfs settled for par.

After tying for Simpson's lowest round of the tournament on the first day, Lindenman held on for the first all-conference honor of his career. The sophomore carded a 74 in the opening round, followed up with a 79 in the second round. He recovered from Friday's 80 to fire a 77 on Saturday, finishing a stroke behind Juilfs in a four-way tie for fourth.

Juilfs and Lindenman's all-conference honors are the first by a Simpson player since 2010 when James Montgomery placed fourth. It's the first time two Simpson players have finished in the top 10 since 2002, when Josh Luehmann and Alex Schenfield finished ninth and 10th, respectively.

Andy Hutchins shot a 79 Saturday to finish tied for 19th. Shaan Desai carded a 78 to tie for 23rd and Nathan Molstead registered an 80 to finish 26th.

The young Simpson squad has a lot to look forward to in the upcoming seasons, as only Juilfs is lost to graduation of those who competed in the IIAC Championship. Lindenman, Desai and Molstead are all sophomores and Hutchins is a junior.

Dubuque's Eric Wolfe shot 73 to win the tournament by 11 strokes, earning MVP honors. Dubuque head coach Jon Davison was named Coach of the Year.
