Men's golf in fifth after IIAC third round

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson men's golf team slipped to fifth place after shooting 323 in the third round of the Iowa Conference Championship at Dubuque Golf & Country Club on Friday.

Simpson entered the day in fourth, but a good round from Wartburg moved Simpson back a spot.

Dubuque leads the team standings (905), followed closely by Central (908). Luther is in third (925), Wartburg fourth (931) and Simpson fifth (940). Coe (958), Loras (1,000) and Buena Vista 1,010) round out the standings.

Conner Juilfs stayed under 80 for the third-straight round, carding a team-low 77 to move into a tie for ninth with 18 holes to play. His 231 is tied with Wartburg's Michael Canfield and two shots back of Central's David Watson.

A top-10 finish would give the senior his first career all-conference nod.

Trent Lindenman fired an 80 on Saturday, putting him in a tie for 13th at 233. Andy Hutchins (t-16th, 236) and Nathan Molstead (t-25th, 243) each shot 83 and Shaan Desai 84 (t-23rd, 242).

Dubuque's Eric Wolfe shot 75 on Friday, giving him 215 through the first three rounds and a commanding seven-stroke lead over Tyler Gunderson (Coe) and Desmond Stoll (Central) in the individual medalist race.

The fourth and final round of the tournament concludes Saturday, May 3 at Dubuque Golf & Country Club.
