Men's golf in second after first round of IIAC Championship

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Simpson men's golf team is off to a great start at the 2014 Iowa Conference Championship, shooting 304 in the opening round at Finkbine Golf Course to sit in second place.

Simpson trails Dubuque by nine strokes and leads Luther by one. Wartburg is in fourth (308), followed by Central (313) and Coe (315).

Andy Hutchins and Trent Lindenman each carded 2-over 74s, good for a four-way tie for fourth.

The duo is four strokes back of leader Eric Wolfe of Dubuque. Wolf leads the medalist race after firing a 2-under 70, two strokes ahead of Wartburg's Ryan Shields. Dubuque Josh Schuberg is in thrd after carding a 73.

Shaan Desai and Conner Juilfs are tied for 14th after shooting 6-over 78s and Nathan Molstead is 28th following a first-round 81.

Simpson begins round two of the four-round tournament Saturday at 11 a.m.
