Lindenman's career round leads men's golf to second at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa – Trent Lindenman's career round helped Simpson take second place at the Wartburg Spring Invitational at Centennial Oaks Golf Course on Saturday.

Simpson and Central each finished with a 36-hole total of 603, but Simpson took second place due to having a better fifth player total. Andy Hutchins outdid Central's Joe Prescott by a stroke.

Mount Mercy shot 286 on Saturday to win the tournament with a two-day total of 585. Simpson topped conference foes Central, Luther (fourth, 605), Wartburg (fifth, 614) Buena Vista (t-seventh, 621), Coe (11th, 650) and Loras (t-13th, 660).

Lindenman finished at 1-over 145 for the weekend, tied for second with Mount Mercy's Jamie Booth and just two strokes behind medalist Ryan Schrimper, also of Mount Mercy. The sophomore carded a career-best, 1-under 71 over the final 18 holes to put himself in contention.

He birdied three holes on the day, including a pair of 500-plus yard par fives.

Shaan Desai and Nathan Molstead each shot 75 on Saturday, leaving Desai tied for 12th at 153 and Molstead tied for 16th at 154. Conner Juilfs, Simpson's co-leader after the first round, finished tied for 25th with 155 after shooting 81 on Saturday.

Hutchins turned in a 78 on both days, proving the difference in Simpson's team standing. He finished tied for 29th and Jimmy Siebert (84-77-161) tied for 46th.

The Storm host the Simpson Spring Invitational on Wednesday, April 16. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
