Kohawks pull away from Storm late

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Simpson College men's basketball team was felled by a late run from Coe in American Rivers Conference play on Wednesday evening.

The Storm (8-12, 2-9 A-R-C) cut a large Coe lead to just eight points, sparked by a game-high 21 points from Andrew Curran, but the Kohawks (18-3, 10-2 A-R-C) responded with a 13-0 run with under seven minutes to go to put the game out of reach.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Coe came out strong, shooting 50 percent over the first 10 minutes to take a 30-15 lead later into the first half.
  • A 3-pointer from Andrew Curran cut the lead to nine points, but Coe held strong and took a 40-25 lead into the halftime break.
  • Coe came out of the halftime break on the front foot again, nailing back-to-back triples in the first couple minutes of the half.
  • The Storm started to chip away at the lead, with Curran nailing his fifth triple of the game to cut the lead to eight points with seven minutes to play.
  • However, the Kohawks embarked on a 13-0 run to take control of the game and claim the win.

TOP STORM

NOTABLE

  • Coe leads the all-time series 56-46, winning seven of the last nine meetings.
  • Andrew Gibb continued his streak of scoring in double figures in every game this season.
  • Curran's five triples means he joins Gibb and Caden Rehmeier as the only Storm players to make at least five 3-pointers in a game this season.
  • The Storm shot under 70 percent from the free throw line for the first time since Dec. 29, despite Gibb making all six of his attempts.
  • While Coe only won the rebound battle by one, the Kohawks outscored the Storm 42-22 in the paint.
