Trio scores in double figures to lift Storm

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The trio of Adam Reiter, Conor Riordan and Kyle Wagner all scored in double figures to lift the Simpson men's basketball team to a 84-79 win over Fontbonne on Friday in the opener of the A-R-C-SLIAC Classic.

Riordan had a game-high 25 points, Wagner contributed 18 and Reiter added 16 to give the Storm (2-1) a nonconference triumph in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The Griffins (0-2) owned a slim one-point lead at 72-71 with less than five minutes to play before a layup by Jeremiah Chandler put Simpson on top to finish the game on a 13-7 run to close it out.

The Storm opened the game on a 10-2 run after making two straight 3-pointers. Fontbonne would fight back with a run of its own to place the contest at 12-12 with 12 minutes left in the first half. Both teams held tight throughout the opening half as it went into halftime as a 34-34 draw.

To begin the second half, both traded baskets through the first four shots to put the game at 38-38 before the Griffins stretched the advantage to 50-46 with less than 14 minutes to play.

A basket by Reiter ignited the offense to go on a 7-0 spurt to grab the momentum and put the game at 53-50. In less than three minutes, the contest was tied once again at 61-61, no team would have a lead larger than two points before Simpson went on its final scoring spree after the game was brought to 72-71.

The Storm only made four triples during the game despite shooting 53% in last night's game. As a unit, the offense shot 45.7% from the floor, while Fontbonne connected on 48.4% of its shots.
