Storm don’t miss a beat, cruise to fourth straight win

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A little rust would be excused for a team playing its first game after a long layoff.

That wasn't the case for the Simpson men's basketball team Thursday.

Adam Reiter scored 21 points, Ben Rajewski had 15 and the Storm shot nearly 50 percent from the field and committed just six turnovers in an 84-66 win over SUNY Poly at the Cruzin Classic.

Playing for the first time in 12 days, the Storm (8-2) cruised to their fourth-straight win thanks in large part to 14-1 run midway through the first half.

John Barbee's fastbreak layup with 9:32 left sparked the run, giving Simpson a 23-17 lead. Reiter scored seven points during the stretch as the Storm built a commanding 17-point advantage.

SUNY Poly didn't have an answer for Reiter, who went 6-for-7 from the field and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

It's just the 14th time in school history a Simpson team has won 8 of 10 games to begin a season, a mark reached twice during head coach Brad Bjorkgren's four seasons.

Josh Gregory scored 30 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for the Wildcats (2-8). The one-man show went 10-for-15 from the field and 7-for-9 from the charity stripe.

John Barbee had 13 points, Taylor Filbert added 11 and eight rebounds and Kyle Wagner handed out seven assists for the Storm.
