Storm ride fast start to 94-69 win at Luther

DECORAH, Iowa -- Conor Riordan scored 17 points, Adam Reiter had 15 and 12 rebounds and the Simpson men's basketball team threatened the school-record for 3-point shooting in a 94-69 win at Luther on Monday.

Kyle Wagner went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc for the Storm (5-2, 1-1 American Rivers), who finished two shy of the school record for 3s in a game by going 15-for-29 from long range.

Riordan, Ben Rajewski and Nick Janssen all made three 3s as Simpson won its seventh straight against the Norse (2-3, 0-1).

Monday's game was a makeup from Saturday when Simpson's bus couldn't make the trip to Decorah due to dangerous winter road conditions.

The two-day delay had no ill-effects on the Storm.

Less than a week after a slow start caused Simpson's undoing in a road loss to Wartburg, the Storm seemed to learn their lesson. Simpson made 11 of its first 16 shots and built a 28-8 lead in the first 9 minutes. Riordan made all three of his treys during the stretch while Wagner and Janssen added one apiece.

The 2002-03 team set the mark for 3s in a game when it made 17 against Dubuque on Feb. 22, 2003.

Thanks to the initial surge, the result was never in doubt. Simpson led 55-27 at halftime and extended the advantage to as many as 33 in the second half. The leader never dipped below 25 in the final 20 minutes.

Wagner finished with 14 points, Janssen added 11 and John Barbee chipped in with 10 as the Storm featured five players in double figures.

Jared Nicolaisen scored 15 points and brought down six rebounds for the Norse, who came into the game allowing just 72 points per game.
