Amsbaugh earns NABC, D3hoops.com accolades

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson's Sam Amsbaugh added to his growing collection of awards last week when he earned all-district honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and all-region honors from D3hoops.com.

Amsbaugh landed second team recognition from both outlets, becoming the first player in school history to be named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region team. The senior forward became just the third Iowa Conference Most Valuable Player in school history earlier this month when he earned co-MVP honors.

The 6-foot-5 senior forward from Sheffield, Iowa averaged 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in 2017-18, leading the team in all three categories. The three-time First Team All-IIAC performer accumulated six double-doubles throughout the season and reached double figures in scoring in 24 of 25 games.

Amsbaugh closed his career eighth in school history in both scoring (1,489) and rebounding (580) and first with seven 30-point games. He is just the eighth player in school history to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career.
