Stromer recognized as top assistant in Division III

Simpson assistant men's basketball coach Brandon Stromer was recently named the top assistant coach in all of Division III by CoachStat.net.

Fresh off his seventh season with the Storm, Stromer came in at No. 1 on the list of the top 25 assistants in Division III after helping lead an impressive turnaround over the last two seasons. With Stromer and head coach Brad Bjorkgren on the sidelines, Simpson has posted back-to-back 15-win seasons for the first time in 18 years.

"Stro has proven to be a tremendous recruiter and coach," Bjorkgren said. "Recruiting him to remain on staff was one of my first priorities as head coach. His hard work is invaluable to our program."

During his tenure, Stromer has taken the lead on recruiting five All-Iowa Conference performers and has coached seven. Stromer helped bring in current First Team All-IIAC forward Sam Amsbaugh, along with former standouts Cornelius Mosby (2nd team, 2011), Chad Boston (2nd team, 2012), Charles Swain (2nd team, 2015) and Dillon Gretzky (2nd team, 2016). He also coached first teamers Zack Barragan (2012) and Elijah Knox (2013).

Stromer joined Simpson's staff on July 6, 2010. He came to Simpson with experience at NCAA Divisions I and II, winning a national championship in Division II as a player for Winona State. He then coached under 2008 Associated Press College Basketball Coach of the Year, Keno Davis at Drake.
