Turner takes home IIAC Player of the Week honors
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Simpson point guard Austin Turner earned Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors after averaging 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in a pair of wins last week, the league office announced Monday.
A senior from San Antonio, Texas, Turner won the award for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 12 after leading the Storm to wins over Dubuque and Central. The weekly honor is the first of his career.
Turner scored a career-high 28 points in the Storm's 79-69 win over Dubuque on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and recorded his first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in an 82-71 win at Central on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Both wins coupled with Wednesday night's win over Luther helped Turner and the Storm secure the No. 4 seed in next week's IIAC Tournament. Simpson will host either Wartburg, Central or Dubuque in a first-round matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
