Swain nets 23, Storm fall to Loras 78-66

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Charles Swain scored a season-high 23 points, but it wasn't enough for the Simpson men's basketball team in a 78-66 loss to Loras on Wednesday.

Mirko Grcic had 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Duhawks (6-8, 1-2 Iowa Conference), who snapped a two-game losing streak. Aaron Schueller added 14 points and went 3-for-4 from 3-point range and Domonique Criss scored 12 points off the bench.

Ryan Skaar came off the bench to score 11 points and made three 3s for Simpson. Swain carried the Storm (6-8, 1-2), going 7-for-16 from the field and 4-for-9 from long distance.

Simpson fell behind by nine points in the first half but came back to tie the game 24-24 on a P.J. Edwards layup with 3:28 to play. After falling behind again, Swain's lay-in with 2:29 to play tied it up at 26-26.

Things went downhill from there.

Led by five points from Justin VanWambeke, Loras closed the first half on an 11-0 run to take a 37-26 lead into halftime. The lead extended to 17 points in the second half and never dropped below 10 in the final 20 minutes.
