CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - JT Vonderhaar scored a game-high 13 points and Coe used a 17-7 run to start the second half in a 66-44 win over the Simpson men's basketball team in the Iowa Conference opener on Wednesday.
Dillon Gretzky led the Storm (5-7, 0-1) with nine points and seven rebounds. Charles Swain also scored nine.
Matt Daoust scored 12 points and Jacob Timm added 11 for the Kohawks (7-5, 1-0). Coe shot better than 49 percent from the field for the game and hit on 8 of 16 from 3-point range.
Simpson never led, but pulled within 23-20 on a Cort Singleton layup with 2:40 left in the first half. From there, Coe outscored Simpson 43-24, including a 7-0 spurt that opened up a 35-22 lead less than 4 minutes into the second half.
