Swain takes home IIAC honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson men's basketball player Charles Swain scored 21 points against NCAA Division I Drake on Monday night and took home Iowa Conference Performer of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Swain, a senior shooting guard from Austin, Texas, averaged 18.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in two games last week. The award is the second of his career, the first coming in December of 2012, his sophomore season.

He scored 16 points on 5 of 14 shooting in Simpson's 70-52 win over Westminster on Dec. 17 and led the Storm with 21 points in an 84-62 loss at Drake on Dec. 22. He went 5-for-10 from the field against Drake and 4-for-7 from 3-point range.

Swain shot 41.7 percent from the field and from 3-point range on the week and knocked down 12 of 14 free throws.

A Second Team all-IIAC performer a year ago, Swain ended the week with 859 career points and is closing in on becoming the 19th player in Simpson history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

Swain and the Storm closed the non-conference schedule with a 5-6 record and open league play Jan. 7 at Coe.
