CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Tyler Anderson scored 20 points off the bench and the Simpson men's basketball team got out to a fast start but Coe came back for a 68-54 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Storm (2-11, 0-2 Iowa Conference) led by eight in the first half but Coe mounted a 12-0 run to start the second and scored the final 10 points in the win.
Christian Fahey scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures for the Kohawks (9-4, 1-1).
Simpson survived Coe's early onslaught in the second half and took a 47-46 lead on an Anderson jumper with 9:47 left in the game. But Matt Daoust responded with the go-ahead jumper for Coe and the Kohakws never trailed the rest of the way, outscoring Simpson 22-7 in the final minutes.
Chad Gutschenritter scored 13 points and Charles Swain had 10 for Simpson, which led 31-26 at halftime.
Simpson returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 15. when Buena Vista comes to Cowles Fieldhouse. The Beavers (7-6, 2-0) beat Loras 77-64 on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. following the women's game.
