Slow first half costs men's basketball in loss to Augustana

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - A slow first half cost the Simpson men's basketball team in an 87-54 loss to Augustana (Ill.) at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Classic on Sunday.

Austin Hennings scored 21 points to lead the Storm (0-5), who managed just 13 points in the first half. Charles Swain added seven points off the bench.

Danielius Jurgutis had 21 points and Kevin Schlitter scored 11 and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Vikings (3-1) shot better than 57 percent from the field.

Simpson committed just seven turnovers, the fourth straight game the Storm have stayed in single digits. But 37 percent shooting from the field couldn't be overcome, including a 6-for-25 effort in the first half.

Hennings earned a spot on the all-tournament team. He scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 77-74 loss to UW-Platteville on Saturday, finishing the tournament with 16 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Simpson returns home to host William Penn on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
