Stearns named IIAC Player of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Simpson football player Jake Stearns earned Iowa Conference co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 25, the league office announced Monday.

IIAC Players of the Week

A junior defensive tackle from Knoxville, Iowa, Stearns made 11 tackles and had one tackle for loss in the Storm's 17-9 win over Buena Vista on Saturday. Stearns helped the Storm keep the Beavers out of the endzone en-route to their first win in Storm Lake since 2004. His 11 tackles were one shy of tying a career-high.

Stearns shared the award with Central's Sam Norgaard. He is Simpson's second defensive player of the week this season — Cole Cook also earned the honor for the period ending Sept. 11.

The Storm are off this week before Luther visits Buxton Stadium on Oct. 8 for the home opener, which is also homecoming for Simpson.
