Glogowski steps down as head football coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Jim Glogowski has resigned as the head football coach at Simpson College to pursue another coaching opportunity, Director of Athletics Brian Niemuth announced Thursday.

The Storm's head coach for the past eight seasons, Glogowski will join the football staff at Division II Minnesota State University as interim defensive coordinator, effective immediately.

"Jim's infectious positive attitude and enthusiasm for Simpson football was unmatched and will truly be missed," Niemuth said. "He had a positive effect on his players, staff members and the entire Simpson community. He did more than prepare student-athletes for Saturday afternoons, he prepared them for success in life after football. We wish Jim, Kate and their family the best of luck in the future."

The 31st head coach in program history, Glogowski leaves Simpson with the second-most wins in program history, going 37-43 since arriving in Indianola from the University of South Dakota in 2008. Inheriting a team that hadn't finished above .500 the previous four seasons, Glogowski guided the Storm to a 7-3 record in his first season at the helm. The team managed 10 wins the next three seasons before going 6-4 in 2012, tying for second in the Iowa Conference. He led the team to another 7-3 mark during a memorable 2013 campaign, as the Storm finished second in the IIAC and came within seconds of sharing the league title. Simpson went 3-7 in 2014 and 4-6 this past fall.

"The last eight years as the head football coach has been a life-changing experience," Glogowski said. "I'm extremely grateful to people like (former athletics director) John Sirianni and (former president) John Byrd for allowing me the opportunity to be a head football coach at a young age and really learn on the run. I think I developed as a person and a coach."

Glogowski coached 21 First Team All-IIAC performers during his tenure, including quarterback Taylor Nelson, 2013 IIAC Offensive MVP. Additionally, three of Simpson's four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans played under Glogowksi.

"I'll miss being on the sidelines at Bill Buxton Stadium, but I won't miss that the same way that I'll miss the players, coaches, and the relationships with people here," Glogowski said. "This was our home."

A national search for Glogowski's replacement will begin immediately, Niemuth said.
