Glogowski to lead "Plunge" into Lake Ahquabi

Saturday's forecast calls for a high of 23 degrees in Central Iowa. That isn't going to stop "Coach Glo" from taking a dip in Lake Ahquabi.

Indianola is the site for the first Polar Plunge of 2015, an event that occurs throughout the cold months in Iowa. The Polar Plunge is a fundraising event for Special Olympics Iowa and consists of participants raising money so they can dive into ice cold water.

Jim Glogowski, head football coach at Simpson, will be the first one in the water on Saturday.

"I just don't want trip and bite it on the beach," Glogowski said. "As long as I get there, get out and get dried off, I think it will be a success.

Glogowski won't be alone. Many other Simpson students, alumni, and faculty participate in the plunge. Former assistant football coach Paul Davis is heavily involved in the Warren County Polar Plunge, being a member of a team that has raised over $3,800 for this weekend.

"Coach Davis does a great job," Glogowski said. "It's a great thing for the community."

Pushing aside the nerves about the cold and possible snow, Glogowski is excited for the chance to raise money for an Iowa charity.

"It's a great cause, and I haven't been involved with it in the past, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to get wet."
