Severn named to Capital One Academic All-America Team

AUSTIN, Texas - Simpson football player Alex Severn has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Team®, as announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A senior defensive lineman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Severn took home second team honors to become the third Academic All-American in Simpson football history. He joins Guy Leman (1998) and Mark Cronin (2012) as the only Storm football players to earn the prestigious honor.

2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Football Team

Majoring in applied philosophy with minors in mathematics and political science, Severn owns a 3.86 cumulative grade point average. Very active on campus, Severn is the Student Body President and president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He has been named to the Dean's List multiple times throughout his academic career and was a member of Simpson's co-National Championship team in College Public Forum Debate.

A two-year starter for head coach Jim Glogowski, Severn led the defensive line with 49 tackles, making 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack in 2014. He earned Second Team all-Iowa Conference honors and is a two-time Capital One First Team Academic All-District 8 honoree.
