A senior quarterback from West Des Moines, Iowa, Nelson takes home the award for the third time this season. He was instrumental in Simpson's exciting, 50-46 win over Dubuque on Saturday, Nov. 2, accounting for six touchdowns for the second week in a row.

Nelson completed 23 of 26 passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns and added 91 yards and three scores on the ground. He threw the game-winning, 26-yard touchdown pass to Corbin Clark with 33 seconds remaining, helping the Storm erase an 11-point, fourth-quarter deficit. He went 4-for-4 passing and had a key, 16-yard scramble on the game-winning drive.

His final rushing touchdown came on fourth-and-goal from two yards out with 3:36 left. He completed the ensuing two-point conversion with a pass to Ryan Olson that brought Simpson within 46-43.

With Saturday's win, Nelson and the Storm (6-2, 4-1 Iowa Conference) moved into a tie with Wartburg for first place in the league standings. Simpson needs wins at home against Buena Vista (Nov. 9) and at Luther (Nov. 16) to earn at least a share of its first conference title since 1997.
