Simpson football announces 2012 schedule
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson football team announced today its 2012 schedule, which kicks off Sept. 1, 2012 on the road at Hamline.
Do to the departure of Cornell from the Iowa Conference, the Storm's schedule features three non-conference games as compared to two last season, which results in a seven-game conference schedule as compared to eight.
The Storm went 5-5 and finished fifth in the Iowa Conference with a 5-3 league record under fourth-year head coach Jim Glogowski in 2011. Simpson started the season 1-4 before winning four of the last five games.
Simpson's non-conference schedule includes games against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes Hamline and Gustavus Adolphus and one against a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe, UW-River Falls.
The season kicks off on the road against Hamline on Sept. 1. The Pipers went winless under first-year head coach John Pate in 2011. Simpson opens the home schedule Sept. 8 when Gustavus Adolphus visits Buxton Stadium. The Gusties went 2-8 in 2011, finishing seventh in the MIAC. The non-conference schedule concludes Sept. 15 with a trip to River Falls, Wis. for a matchup with UW-River Falls. The Falcons and first-year head coach Matt Walker finished eighth in the WIAC last season, going 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
After a bye week, the Storm waste little time entering the heart of their Iowa Conference schedule. Simpson faces the league's top four teams in the first five games of the conference slate.
Wartburg (8-2, 6-2) visits Buxton Stadium on Sept. 29 to open the conference schedule, followed by a trip to Central (7-3, 6-2) on Oct. 6. Simpson hosts then hosts Loras (1-9, 0-8) on Oct. 13.
Homecoming falls on Oct. 20, when Coe (6-4, 6-2) comes to town. A two-game road stretch follows, as the Storm go to Dubuque (9-2, 7-1) on Oct. 27 and to Buena Vista (2-8, 2-6) on Nov. 3. The season finale is Nov. 10 against Luther (3-7, 3-5).
