Athletic department signs five-year deal with BSN SPORTS, Nike

The Simpson athletic department has signed a five-year agreement with BSN SPORTS to be the official supplier of athletic apparel and equipment for all 19 varsity sports. Under the partnership, Nike will become the exclusive supplier of the Storm’s uniforms, apparel and accessories.
Bob Nutgrass appointed Athletic Director

Simpson College President Jay Simmons announced Wednesday that Bob Nutgrass, a long-time staff member and current assistant athletic director, will become the college’s next Athletic Director. He replaces Brian Niemuth, who has held the role for the past five years in addition to serving as the head women’s basketball coach.

Four members of the Simpson baseball team earned All-Iowa Conference honors for the 2018 season, as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches. Kolton Arnold earned first team honors, Trey Kehoe landed on the second team and Tanner Jansen and Noah Sacco were honorable mention picks.

Hunter Hillygus drove in the game-winning run in game one, Truman Schmitt drove in three runs in game two, and Simpson swept Coe 5-3 and 11-6 Saturday, spoiling the home team’s hopes of an Iowa Conference Championship.

Nolan Arp drove in the go-ahead run on a double in the fourth inning, TJ Johnson threw four shutout innings to close the game and Coe beat the Simpson baseball team 2-1 Friday in the series opener.
Seniors power Storm to series win over Buena Vista

Curt Castenson went six-plus innings in his best start of the season, Trey Kehoe homered and Hunter Hillygus drove in three runs while collecting his 100th career hit as the Storm beat Buena Vista 10-5 in game one to take 2 of 3 from Buena Vista. Buena Vista won game two 6-0.

The Simpson baseball team led early in both halves of Saturday’s Iowa Conference doubleheader but couldn’t come away with a win, losing game one 4-3 before falling 13-3 in the nightcap.
