Norse snag two from Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Simpson baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader to Luther on Friday, losing game one 13-8 before falling 14-3 in seven innings in the nightcap.

Thanks to a late start because of a some scattered showers, game two didn't conclude until after 11:30 p.m.

Hunter Hillygus had a career-game with four hits in the opener but the Storm (5-21, 2-12 Iowa Conference) were hurt by Luther's seven-run fifth inning. Simpson committed four errors in the game that turned into nine unearned runs.

Simpson trailed 7-2 in the fifth before Josh Osborne's bases-clearing double tied it up 7-7. The comeback stalled, however, when Luther got three in the sixth, two on an error.

Teddy Klingsporn improved to 3-1 all-time against Simpson, fanning 10 in five innings of work for the Norse (13-11, 7-7). Colin Coffey picked up a rare four-inning save and Trey Kehoe suffered the loss. Kehoe (1-3) allowed 10 runs -- one earned -- in five innings.

Trent Dooley smacked a solo homer to lead off game two but Luther came back with seven in the second and Simpson couldn't recover.

Osborne and Luke Anctil had two hits apiece and Hillygus went 1-for-1 to finish off a five-hit day. Adam Richman (1-4) couldn't get out of the second inning in the loss.
