Offensive onslaught helps Storm earn first win

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Simpson baseball team got its first win of the season in convincing fashion Tuesday, plating 21 runs on 27 hits in a shutout win over North Central (Minn.). Simpson earned a split on the day, falling to Wabash 14-5 in the second game of the day.
The Storm (1-5) cruised to the first win of the Nathan Roling era in Tuesday's opener, posting some of the top offensive numbers in school history. Here's where the Storm stand in the school records:
21 runs -- most since 2008
27 hits -- second-most in school history
18 RBIs -- tied for third-most in school history
33 total bases -- fifth-most in school history
Simpson 21, North Central 0
The Storm batted around twice in the top of the first and never looked back, giving starting pticher Tanner Jansen a 12-0 lead before he even stepped on the mound. Hunter Hillygus went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs while Trent Dooley, Jacob Petry, Jonathan Greiner, Luke Anctil and Andy Anderson all finished with three hits.
Anctil and Truman Schmitt drove in three runs apiece. Anctil had the highlight of the first inning, plating a bases-clearing triple. Dooley finished a home run shy of the cycle, hitting a single in his second at-bat of the first, doubling in the second and hitting a triple in the third.
Jansen tossed five innings of three-hit ball in the win, fanning six without issuing a walk.
Wabash 14, Simpson 5
The Storm picked up where they left off in game two, getting three runs in the first inning. Wabash came back with 11 in the home half, though, and Simpson couldn't recover.
Dooley and Anctil had two hits apiece and Hillyguys drove in two runs. Anctil tripled in the first inning while Dooley and Adam Richman each had doubles. Petry walked three times.
Five pitchers took the hill for the Storm. Greiner suffered the loss, allowing seven runs -- six earned -- off four hits without getting out of the first.
