Errors costly in Storm losses to Aurora

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Simpson baseball team suffered a doubleheader sweep Sunday at the Tucson Invitational, losing to Aurora 7-2 and 5-3.

The Spartans (3-2) used a four-run seventh to pull away in game one as Simpson didn't get on the board until its last at-bat.

Adam Lipscomb broke the game open with a bases-clearing double after a costly Simpson error kept Aurora alive in the seventh. Harry Vickers - who homered in the third - drove in the fourth unearned run of the inning for a 7-0 lead.

The Storm (1-5) got on the board in the seventh thanks to a leadoff bomb by Bud Smith. Trevor Dudar followed with a double, scoring on a base-hit by Austin Burlin. 

Daultan Gibson went the distance, allowing seven runs - just three earned - while striking out five.

Simpson took a 3-2 lead on a run-scoring single by Trent Dooley in the fourth inning of the nightcap, but Aurora came back with one in the fifth and two in the sixth to hand Simpson its fifth-straight loss.

Simpson committed four errors that resulted in two unearned runs, hurting Jonathan Greiner's chances at a win. Greiner went six innings, allowing just six hits and three earned runs.

Up next: The Storm are off Monday and Tuesday, returning to action Wednesday for a doubleheader with Marian (Wis.). This will be Simpson's third and fourth meetings with Marian after splitting the season-opening twinbill last Friday.
