Esdohr's long ball not enough at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - Sam Galanek tied a school record with three home runs as Grinnell beat the Simpson baseball team 9-1 on Thursday at Pioneer Park.

Graham Fisher held Simpson to four hits and one run in seven innings and Galanek homered in the third, fourth and sixth innings for the Pioneers (4-8). Galanek finished with five RBIs, hitting two run homers in his second and third at-bats and closing with a solo shot in his fourth.

Each long ball went to center but each came off a different Simpson pitcher.

Jake Esdohr hit a solo homer in the sixth, the lone run of the day for the Storm (3-10). Jalen Sickels (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing one run off one hit in two innings.

Austin Burlin singled in the fourth to increase his hitting streak to eight games. Esdohr finished 2-for-4 as Simpson managed jsut five hits.

Simpson returns to league play this weekend when it hosts Luther (5-5, 0-0 Iowa Conference) in a four-game series beginning with a doubleheader Friday at 3:30 p.m. The series concludes with another doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
