SIMPSON 7, LORAS 6

Jake Scieszinski went 2-for-3 and sparked a three-run seventh with an RBI-double. Bud Smith and Zeb Noel each added an RBI-single to give the Storm a 7-3 lead. Simpson needed all four of those runs, as Loras took advantage of a Simpson error to score three runs in the last at-bat. Brock Borgeson came on in relief of Gage Reis, issuing a run-scoring walk before coaxing the game-ending groundout to earn the save. Reis (1-1) allowed six runs – four earned – with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Austin Burlin went 4-for-5 and Scieszinksi drove in two as part of a four-run first. A sacrifice fly by Smith gave Simpson a 5-2 lead in the top of the third, but Loras scored five runs off six hits to take a 7-5 lead in the third. Burlin doubled and scored to pull the Storm within a run in the fifth, but Loras pulled away with three in the fifth and two in the eighth. After finishing game one, Borgeson (0-1) got the start in game two, allowing six runs – all earned – off nine hits in 2 1/3. Scieszinksi had three hits and two RBIs.
