Storm drop IIAC opening DH to Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson baseball team dropped its Iowa Conference-opening doubleheader Friday night, losing to Loras 4-3 in the opener before dropping the nightcap 9-2.

Gage Reis had four hits in the opener for the Storm (2-8, 0-2 Iowa Conference), but the Duhawks (7-5, 2-0) got a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. Loras pulled away with a five-run fifth in game two.

Loras 4, Simpson 3
Bud Smith roped an RBI double to give Simpson a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning but Loras got a two-run homer from Tony Heiser to tie it up in the fifth. Heiser then drove in the game-winning run in the seventh. Matt Pennings (0-3) allowed 10 hits and four runs, all earned, striking out five.

Loras 9, Simpson 3
Jake Esdohr singled and scored on a wild pitch in the first for Simpson's only lead. Loras scored twice in the home half and tacked on five in the fifth. Austin Burlin had two hits and Jake Scieszinski took the loss. Scieszinski (2-1) surrendered 12 hits and seven runs - all earned - in 4 2/3 innings.

Simpson will try for the split against Loras on Saturday with the final two games of the four-game series. First pitch is set for for 1 p.m.
