Storm split on final day in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Gage Reis tied a school record with five hits in a win over Minot State as the Simpson baseball team split its final two games at the Tucson Invitational, beating Minot State 13-8 and falling to Carroll (Wis.) 13-5.

Ries went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs scored against Minot State, getting a double and four singles. He also walked and scored in a four-run seventh that helped the Storm (2-5) pull away for their second win of the season.

Simpson 13, Mont State 8
Jonathan Greiner drove in three runs and Jake Scieszinski threw six solid innings to go along with Reis' five hits. Simpson led 8-7 through six but got a two-RBI double from Jeremy Roehrick and a two-run single from Bud Smith to build a 14-7 lead. Scieszinski (2-0) allowed 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) in six innings in the win.

Carroll 13, Simpson 5
Simpson led 3-0 before Carroll mounted a nine-run third inning to put the game out of reach. Jake Esdorh went 4-for-5 with a run scored, and Devan Wicks and Austin Burlin had three hits apiece. Zeb Noel went 4 1/3 innings and struck out seven in the loss. Just six of his 11 runs allowed were earned, as Simpson committed three errors on the day.
