Millsaps downs Storm with late rally

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Millsaps scored five times in the eighth inning, coming from four runs down to beat the Simpson baseball team 11-10 at the Ozarks Baseball Classic on Saturday.

Samuel Doucet provided the go-ahead hit in the eighth for the Majors (4-1) when he roped a two-RBI double to center off reliever Chris Dorff.

Keith Shumaker drove in three runs and Jules Roussel finished 2-for-2 with five runs scored.

Jake Barr went 3-for-5 at the plate and highlighted a seven-run fourth inning with a three-run homer for the Storm (0-2). Blake Heitmeier finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Brett Crable went 2-for-6 with two RBIs.

Simpson sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring all of its runs with two outs. Taylor Nelson, Heitmeier and Crable all had run-scoring singles before Barr's big fly gave the Storm a 7-3 advantage.

Simpson out-hit Millsaps 15-13 and led 10-6 after 7 1/2 innings.

Dorff (0-1) took the loss in relief of Aaron Young, who allowed nine runs – six earned – off10 hits in seven plus innings but still had Simpson in a position to win the game. Zander Romano held Simpson off the board in the eighth and ninth for the win.

The Storm close the Ozarks Baseball Classic tomorrow when they face Westminster at 10 a.m.
