Johnson named IIAC Player of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS - Simpson baseball player Dave Johnson earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Position Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, April 17 after hitting .571 with seven RBIs.

A senior shortstop from West Des Moines, Iowa (Valley), Johnson slugged .857 in four games during the week, helping the Storm (18-8, 11-3 Iowa Conference) go 3-1 and remain atop the league standings. He tallied eight hits, including three doubles, a triple and three runs scored.

Johnson drove in at least one run in each game during the week, as Simpson started with a 12-3 loss to Central on Wednesday before getting 2-0, 11-1 and 4-0 wins over Cornell in the weekend series at McBride Field. In the second game of the Cornell series, Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Simpson faces Buena Vista this weekend in Storm Lake. The key, three-game set with the defending Iowa Conference champions gets underway Friday at 6 p.m.
