WAVERLY - Justin Svehla drove in Simpson's only run in an 11-1, eight-inning loss to Wartburg on Friday night.
The Storm (14-6, 7-1 Iowa Conference) were held to five hits in their first conference loss of the season, snapping a seven-game winning streak.
Drew Yoder went 4-for-5 with three doubles and five RBIs for the Knights (12-12, 5-4 IIAC). Brad Watson went the distance on the mound, striking out 13.
Mike Huyser (4-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs - six earned - off 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Simpson committed five errors in the loss.
The two teams finish their three-game set with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
