Huyser named IIAC Athlete of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS - Simpson baseball player Mike Huyser earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, March 27 after throwing a no-hitter against Dubuque on Sunday.
Huyser, a senior pitcher from Indianola, went the distance in Simpson's 10-0, eight-inning win over Dubuque. He struck out six and walked two, picking up the program's first no-hitter since 1999, when Matt McCollough no-hit Coe in a seven-inning game on April 6.
The win improved Huyser's record to a team-best 3-1 on the season while lowering his ERA to 1.75. In four appearances this year, he already has two complete-game shutouts. He has 21 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings and opponents are hitting only .143 against him.
Simpson won game two of the doubleheader with Dubuque 4-0, improving to 9-5 on the season and 2-0 in Iowa Conference play.
